Man dies after jumping from Mayo Bridge

The Richmond Times-Dispatch is reporting that a man in his late 60s died Monday afternoon after authorities said he apparently jumped from the Mayo Bridge in downtown Richmond.

Witnesses reported seeing the man leap from bridge near East Canal Street just after 2 p.m.

Fire-rescue crews responded and pulled the man from the James River. Paramedics tried unsuccessfully to resuscitate the man. Richmond police spokesman James Mercante said there were no signs of foul play. “He appears to have jumped off the bridge,” Mercante said.
