Luck Stone steps up to keep XTERRA in Richmond

A Richmond Times-Dispatch report a month ago mentioned that for the second year in a row, the XTERRA East Championship might have to bolt Richmond for good. But today, from Richmond BizSense:

A major outdoor sporting event will stay in Richmond thanks to a sponsorship agreement struck with a local sponsor.

Luck Stone Corporation has committed at least $25,000 to sponsor this year’s XTERRA East Championship, a sporting event featuring a mountain bike triathlon race in and alongside the James River. The event will take place June 11-12 and mark its 13th year in Richmond.

Mayor Dwight Jones, Councilman Doug Conner and Luck Stone executive Bob Grauer made the announcement at a press conference at Brown’s Island this morning.

In the report from NBC12:

Councilman Doug Conner stepped in and helped find the new sponsor. He’s also participated in the 10k part of event the last few years.

Conner is a hero to the outdoors in Richmond. He is one of the leaders in the effort to build greenways in Richmond and is very dedicated to his district.

  1. Leadership like Conner’s and actions like Luckstone’s stand out as class acts, especially in this world of corporate greed and thoughtlessness. Cheers to them.

  2. A great partnership for a signature Richmond event. Thanks Luckstone and Mr. Conner!

  3. Awesome news.
