Off the market, a single-family dwelling in a thriving neighborhood just west of the Boulevard Bridge and overlooking the James River, with beautiful landscaping, close to food sources and flood insurance not needed.
Canada geese know how to live in style at Choo Choo Rapids! I stopped by and climbed up a ladder attached to one of the stone piers under the arching Atlantic Coast Line Bridge trying to catch the view from 30 feet up. I was surprised to find a goose family in the making living on top.
The male goose spent a minute or two hissing and spitting at me while the female protected the five eggs in the nest. This is the pier that most people pass by when paddling and has always seemed to be popular with river goers. It has a small cedar tree growing on it, which often has aluminum cans all over it as decoration.
At least half of the piers had pairs of geese on them, likely guarding their eggs. I do wonder how those little goslings will get down from atop those things though — they are likely 30 feet above the river.
